Construction Gets Underway On Kilvey Hill

Construction Begins on Kilvey Hill

Construction work is shortly getting underway on the Skyline Swansea Project. This is the next planned step in delivering the development on Kilvey Hill, following the completion of enabling works which started earlier this year.

Soon, we will begin earthworks on Kilvey Hill to prepare the site for the luge tracks. Sustainable Drainage Systems are also being installed, which avoid discharge of stormwater to public networks, maintain and enhance water quality, and support biodiversity on the hill. At Landore Park & Ride, groundworks will shortly begin to prepare the site for the cable car base station.

Public access to Kilvey Hill will be maintained throughout. Fencing will be installed around active worksites to protect the health and safety of workers and the public. Additional signage will be in place across the site, and a map of fencing and current access routes is available here.

The Park & Ride and Penderyn Distillery will remain open as usual, though the number of available parking spaces at the Park & Ride will be reduced while works are underway.

We know that Kilvey Hill matters deeply to the people of Swansea, particularly those in the communities closest to it. We are committed to keeping those communities informed at every stage of the build.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Yes. Construction work is now underway at two locations: on Kilvey Hill, and at Landore Park & Ride. On Kilvey Hill, earthworks have begun to prepare the site for the luge tracks. At the Park & Ride, groundworks are underway to prepare the site for the cable car base station.

This phase of construction involves shaping the land on Kilvey Hill for the luge track routes, and preparing the Park & Ride site for the cable car base station. It also includes the installation of Sustainable Drainage Systems on Kilvey Hill, which avoid discharge of stormwater to public networks, maintain and enhance water quality, and support biodiversity.

Swansea Council is carrying out separate works at the Park & Ride at the same time, including relocating the bus stop and reconfiguring the junction. Any questions about those works should be directed to Swansea Council.

Yes. Public access to Kilvey Hill will be maintained throughout construction. Some paths near active work areas have been temporarily re-routed, and these diversions are clearly signposted on site. We have also carried out extra clearance work on the temporary paths to make them easier to follow.

Yes. Landore Park & Ride will remain open throughout the construction period. There will be a reduced number of parking spaces available while works are underway. Penderyn Distillery’s car park access will not be affected by our works.

Construction work will generate some noise and activity, particularly during the groundworks and earthworks phase on Kilvey Hill. All works are carried out during standard construction hours. We will give advance notice through this website and our community newsletter before any works that are likely to cause significant disruption. If you have a specific concern, please contact us directly.

Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) use natural processes – such as plants, soils, and landscape design – to manage rainwater where it falls, rather than channelling it into public drainage networks. On Kilvey Hill, SuDS are being installed to avoid discharge of stormwater to public networks, maintain and enhance water quality, and support local biodiversity. They are a long-term benefit to the hill and the surrounding area.

Yes. Skyline Swansea will create employment opportunities for local people, both during construction and once the attraction opens. We are committed to working with local contractors and suppliers. When open, Skyline Swansea will create full-time roles, covering a range of skills – from operations and hospitality to maintenance and management. We will be advertising opportunities ahead of opening.
